Preserved limes and confit garlic
It’s that time of the month again so without further ado… In my kitchen is a jar of preserved limes and a jar of garlic confit.
Mum and I went to the Noosa Farmer’s markets on Sunday and got some treasures (I’ll share them all later in the week). The lime man told us they made a huge special order of preserved limes for a restaurant during the Noosa Food & Wine festival.
They had a little left over so we got lucky! I haven’t tried it yet but I’m thinking I’ll make some sort of tagine with it.
The garlic confit is amazing. I wouldn’t be too nice to live with for a few hours but I could quite easily eat the whole jar on its own. It was delicious spread on the 3 cheese bread we also bought for lunch.
Mandarins and oranges
In my kitchen is a fruit bowl full of mandarins and bush lemons fresh from my great aunt’s tree. Mum went to visit her last week and picked the treasures. The lemons might not look pretty but they are so juicy. I’m on the hunt for mandarin recipes now.
Banana jam
In my kitchen is a little jar of banana jam that mum and dad brought back from a recent trip to Fiji. It’s only a little jar so I’m still brainstorming the perfect way to savour it. I’ll probably end up spreading it on a crumpet.
Deep loose base cake tin
In my kitchen is a new deep round cake tin. I have quite a few idea for cake creations in this guy.
Strawberry and macadmia fairy floss
In my kitchen is a tub of strawberry and macadmia fairy floss – another purchase from the markets. I’ll tell you a more about it when I blog about the markets.
50 Shades of Grey
Ok so I know it’s not a food item but it is in my kitchen. I’ve discovered that reading makes risotto cook faster!
What about you? What’s going on in your kitchen this month?
Please head over to Fig Jam and Lime Cordial, the home of in my kitchen to see what’s happening in other kitchens around the blogosphere.

You know the only thing missing from FSOG is food! Ana doesn’t really care about it and that’s a lost 9 1/2 weeks opportunity
I know! To think she wasn’t impressed with the breakfast at the start. There are a few lines in the book that are very very similar to Pretty Woman.
Oh we brought back Banana Jam from Thailand. Isn’t it amazing
Yum yum yum!
Can I borrow that deep cake pan? I LOVE i! You always have a fun kitchen, Claire!
I’ll test it out first and then you’re more than welcome Chris!
mandarin cake!!!!!!!!! I love it. never cooked it. haven’t been able to find the right recipe. It is delicious though.
Yes that did come to mind! I have found a cupcake recipe that used mandarin juice. I’ll give it a go tomorrow I think.
argh.. if I had known you were at the Noosa farmer’s market I would have been there to meet you. You met my friend Genevieve who is the creator of the Spun fairy floss. She’s lovely. I ate my strawberry macadamia floss already.
The Noosa market is my favourite but it’s a 30 minute drive up there from here so I go only about once a month.
Oh no! I was going to tweet to see if anyone was there but we were so late we nearly didn’t make it. In that case I met your friend’s husband. He was very nice! I’m saving my fairy floss for a creation later in the week. I think it gets better every time I go!
What lovely things are in your kitchen. I love the look of the bush lemons. You have some great relatives with amazing produce – first the honey and now the lemons! Does that cake tin have a bottom that lifts out? I bought one very similar and it leaks! To use it I have to line it really well. When were you in Fiji? I have never tried banana jam but I’d like to. Looking forward to seeing with you do with the preserved limes xx
It’s the same relative who has the honey man behind her. She’s a wealth of fresh produce! That’s not good about the tin. I will make sure I line it well and thanks for the tip!
It was my mum and dad in Fiji but I was there last year!
Wow! You have been shopping. Those bush lemons are amazing. I have never seen them before. How closely related are they to the normal variety? garden varieties?
I’m not sure Glenda. I think they’re just a rough and rustic variety of a normal old garden lemon.
Thanks for sharing all your goodies, I really want to read that book!
I’m sure you’ll have to give in to the hype eventually!
Lorraine was talking about that book at lunch!
Gorgeous things in your kitchen, Claire, love the look of that garlic confit. If we eat it together, maybe we won’t stink each other out?
And I can’t wait to find out more about the fairy floss…
That’s a good idea let’s share it. You could make some extra with your garlic from your new garlic pot!
Claire, so many delicious goodies in your kitchen. Love the home grown citrus fruit, there is simply nothing better! And the banana jam, how awesome! Thanks for inviting us into your kitchen.
Thanks for visiting my kitchen Lizzy!
Hi Claire,
Lovely things in your kitchen this month. I’m intrigued by that fairy floss. I’ve never heard of anything like that before! I’m sure it will be fun to play around with. Oh and enjoy FSOG. It’s a hard one to put down!
Fun to eat too Emilie!
Our lovely treasures! Mom is coming over this week, and our ambitious project- Homemade Peanut Butter. Wish me luck! Kcreations is one of my inspirations.
Good luck Erin. Homemade peanut butter is fantastic. It’s dangerous though… highly addictive! Have fun with your mum.
Convinced I am now the only person in the universe that hasn’t read 50 Shades of Gray. Thanks for sharing whats in your kitchen. That confit sounds really interesting (..and lethal).
You just might be Karen! You’re quite right. It’s deadly delicious!
