Dulche de Leche
My In My Kitchen post for this month is a little bit exotic. Right now my kitchen is jam-packed with goodies I found on my adventures in South America. I didn’t buy much while I was away but of what I did buy, most of it was food-related, as you can expect. So without further ado…
In my kitchen is a jar of dulce de leche. I was introduced to this in Argentina (yes I know we have it here or I can make it but it’s different on holidays) and fell in love. It was so delicious. My favourite way to eat it was with ice-cream.

Antique silver cake slice
In my kitchen is an antique silver-plated cake slice that I bought at a flee market in Chile in a small town. The little old man selling it was so cute. It scrubbed up nicely after a dip in my homemade silver cleaner.

Corn nuts
In my kitchen are corn nuts. This was my second addiction while I was away. They’re from Peru and they are so good. They’re like popcorn just before it pops – crunchy but soft in the middle. I could eat the whole bag!

Pots
In my kitchen are some little pots I got at the markets in Cuzco. I was searching for a chip bowl but after 5 weeks I found nothing. I don’t know what South American people eat their chips out of but it’s not a bowl. I’m looking forward to making use of these.

Diddle Dee Jam
In my kitchen is diddle dee jam that I bought in the Falkland Islands where I saw the penguins. It’s made out of a berry that grows wild everywhere. I haven’t tried it yet but it’s meant to be quite sweet.

Peruvian placemats
In my kitchen are a new set of place mats that I bought at the markets in Machu Picchu. The colours at the markets were amazing. All the locals dress in such vibrant colours too. I think you’d have to be happy dressing so brightly every day.

Plastic toothpicks
In my kitchen are some plastic toothpicks that mum bought me in a kitchen shop in Buenos Aires. They were the only thing we hadn’t seen before. I love the colours. Thanks mum!

Clay bowls
In my kitchen are some clay bowls that I bought in Santiago, Chile. A few hours before, we’d been served lunch in the same bowls at a restaurant and when I saw them at the markets I had to have them.

Teeny tiny spoons
Last but not least, in my kitchen are some teeny tiny spoons to go with my little ceramic dishes. I think they’ll be perfect for salt and pepper. Now it’s time to find a home for all my new goodies.
What about you? What’s in your kitchen this month?

Claire, what a fabulous IMK post! I feel like I’ve just done a brief travel tour with you! It’s all gorgeous – love the cake slide and the pots and the intriguing jam – what sort of berries are they exactly? And the place mats would put a smile on your face every time you sat down to a meal! Thanks for playing..
It was a little tour around South America wasn’t it. Thanks for starting the game!
You have 3 more little bowls to come.
The cake knife came from the market in Montevideo,Uruguay!!
xx
You are quite right. I couldn’t remember! I can see the place but couldn’t remember where we were.
I love all the items in your kitchen! Especially the pots and bowls
Where did you get the tiny spoons from? I want to get them too ~ perfect for desserts!
I’ve never heard of corn nuts before! Can we get them in Australia?
I haven’t looked for corn nuts yet but if I see them somewhere I’ll let you know. The spoons were from Peru so sorry a little bit tricky to get!
Armchair travel at its best! Love the treasures in your kitchen this month! How exotic!
I’m glad you enjoyed it Lizzy!
Wow! Your kitchen is definitely more interesting than mine! I love the coloured toothpicks. I’ve seen a lot of these kinds of things before as my husband was born in Chile and spent many years there. They love vibrant colours don’t they. Great that you were able to squeeze so many things into your suitcase.
They do indeed love colours. I have no idea. The suitcase was expandable so that helped and I wore my shoes out and left them there so that left me a bit more space too.
What a lovely selection of things. The colours of the table mats would certainly bring a smile to your face each time you used them and summer into your home. Those little spoons are cute, how clever to have bought things that remind you of your trip but aren’t completely useless once you get back. GG
Ahh yes I learned that a little while ago. I try not to fall into the tourist trap of buying things that will end up as clutter at home. Living in a small place helps too!
What beautiful finds! I just love the cake slicer and the clay bowls. I have never traveled to SA but in my past career used to send people there all the time. One place that I certainly would love to go to some time.
It’s definitely a place that you have to see. The cake slicer is my favourite find!
Claire,
What a fun post! I’m laughing at you again because you’re just like me – most of what I bring home from England is food related!
Haha seems to happen everywhere I go. I’m just drawn to food-related things!
What a lot of treasure you brought home in your bags!
!
I love little bowls- I have a small collection of little bowls – my family has been trained to look for them when they travel!
And addiction to corn nuts is very common- I’ve been addicted for years! They can be hard on your teeth, though
And I am also a big fan of your placemats- those colors a bright and sunny- hope they don’[t fade too much when washed!
It’s great to have something you can collect that people look out for. My mum has a friend who collects thimbles so it’s always lots of fun searching for them wherever we are. I hope they don’t fade too! I’ve washed them in a lot of salt to keep the colours and they held well so fingers crossed.
You got yourself a great haul there! That Diddle Dee jam sounds really interesting-it looks like raspberry at first glance!
Didn’t I?! I thought it was raspberry too. I hope it tastes a bit like it.
Gorgeous things you found on your trip – I adore those clay pots!
Thanks! What’s even better… I got the three of them for $4
